You set the starting point

A space for the whole of you

You may be navigating identity, coming out or relationships. You may simply want support with anxiety, loss, family difficulties or a demanding time at work. Your sexuality will be respected, without being made the explanation for everything.

What you may want to explore

Room for what matters to you

01

Identity and visibility

Explore feeling seen, being misunderstood, choosing labels or discovering your sexuality at a different stage of life.

02

Coming out and changing circumstances

Consider disclosure, family responses or changes to an existing relationship at a pace that feels appropriate.

03

Relationships and boundaries

Talk about communication, closeness, conflict, separation and how to maintain your own needs within a relationship.

04

Belonging and connection

Explore friendship, community, loneliness or pressure to fit a particular image of lesbian life.

05

Family and expectations

Make room for culture, faith, parenting, chosen family and the expectations placed on you.

06

Everyday emotional wellbeing

Bring anxiety, low mood, grief, self-esteem concerns or life transitions, whether or not they relate to sexuality.

There is no single way to be a lesbian, or one story your life has to follow.

An affirming space

Being heard in your own words

Feeling invisible, being sexualised or having a relationship dismissed can be painful. You should not have to spend therapy correcting assumptions before you can begin talking about your life.

We can explore the impact of those experiences, alongside the strengths, relationships and sources of joy that matter to you. Your story can be complex, changing and entirely your own.

Counselling with Richard

Understanding, at your pace

01 · Compassion

A place to speak freely

I want you to feel able to speak openly about your life and relationships. If you have felt dismissed or misunderstood, we can take time to talk about the effect of that.

02 · Curiosity

Understanding your experience

We can explore your relationships, family expectations and sense of belonging, alongside whatever else brings you to counselling. I will follow your concerns.

03 · Change

Changes we can work towards

Together, we can consider what would help: expressing your needs, managing a change in a relationship or finding ways to be less critical of yourself.

Questions you may have

Before we begin

Can I come if I have come out later in life?

Yes. We can make space for discovery, excitement, grief or changes to relationships, without expecting one particular emotional response.

Will you assume my concerns are about sexuality?

No. We will explore the concerns you bring. Sexuality may be relevant, or it may simply be one part of your life.

Can we discuss relationship difficulties?

Yes. We can explore your own experience of communication, trust, boundaries and separation. This page describes individual counselling.
