You set the starting point

Your experience sets the direction

You may want to explore gender, the impact of discrimination, relationships or changes in your life. You may be seeking support for something unrelated to gender. We can begin with your priorities, without requiring certainty or a particular path.

What you may want to explore

Room for what matters to you

01

Exploration without pressure

Reflect on gender and the language that fits your experience, without being pushed towards a predetermined outcome.

02

Being recognised

Talk about names, pronouns, misgendering, visibility and the emotional effort of being understood.

03

Dysphoria, where relevant

Make space for discomfort or distress relating to gender or your body, without assuming every trans or non-binary person experiences it in the same way.

04

Relationships and disclosure

Explore family, partners, friendships, chosen family and decisions about sharing aspects of your identity.

05

Social pressures and safety

Discuss the impact of discrimination, isolation or public debate, and the boundaries and support that help you navigate them.

06

Life beyond gender

Bring anxiety, grief, work stress, relationships or low mood. Gender does not have to be the focus of your counselling.

You do not need a particular appearance, history or destination to be taken seriously.

An affirming space

Support for your wellbeing, at your pace

Counselling can offer a place to process feelings, strengthen support and think through decisions in your own life. There is no expectation that you want hormones, surgery or any particular form of transition.

This is individual counselling, rather than a medical gender assessment or a service prescribing treatment. If you want information about specialist healthcare, we can discuss appropriate sources of support alongside the emotional work.

Counselling with Richard

Understanding, at your pace

01 · Compassion

A place to speak freely

I will respect your name, pronouns and the way you understand yourself. You can talk about gender if you want to, or focus on another difficulty in your life.

02 · Curiosity

Understanding your experience

We can explore how your experiences, relationships and other people’s responses affect you. There is no expectation that you need to be certain or follow a particular path.

03 · Change

Changes we can work towards

We can consider what would support you now, such as a boundary, a difficult conversation or ways of managing distress. The decisions about your life remain yours.

Questions you may have

Before we begin

Can I come if I am questioning my gender?

Yes. You do not need a diagnosis, a settled identity or a plan for transition to begin counselling.

Do I have to experience dysphoria?

No. Your concerns and your own description of your experience guide the work. We will not assume that dysphoria is part of your story.

Is this a medical assessment or referral service?

No. I offer counselling. A GP or specialist gender service can advise on medical assessment and treatment; counselling can support your emotional wellbeing alongside that process.
